MUM'S DEFINITION OF BEAUTY

“Sometimes people are beautiful, not in looks, not in what they say, just in what they are’’ Markus Zusak. Growing up as a girl of nine (9), I came across the word, ‘inner beauty’ for the very first time. That word really got me thinking and even worried. I knew what beauty meant. To me then, beauty meant being tall, slim, light skinned, bright eyes, small and pink lips… but I pondered on the word, ‘inner beauty’. I wondered, “How can a person be beautiful inside? Does it mean the lungs, intestines, kidney and other internal organs are clean, free from impurities and just beautiful?” I took my confusion to my mother and she said, “Inner beauty is true beauty. It springs from within and radiates for all to see. It means a heart that’s pure, humble and wishes the good of others” That was my mother’s definition of inner beauty.
