MUM'S DEFINITION OF BEAUTY

“Sometimes people are beautiful, not in looks, not in what they say, just in what they are’’ Markus Zusak.

Growing up as a girl of nine (9), I came across the word, ‘inner beauty’ for the very first time. That word really got me thinking and even worried. I knew what beauty meant. To me then, beauty meant being tall, slim, light skinned, bright eyes, small and pink lips… but I pondered on the word, ‘inner beauty’. I wondered, “How can a person be beautiful inside? Does it mean the lungs, intestines, kidney and other internal organs are clean, free from impurities and just beautiful?” I took my confusion to my mother and she said, “Inner beauty is true beauty. It springs from within and radiates for all to see. It means a heart that’s pure, humble and wishes the good of others”

That was my mother’s definition of inner beauty. Mum said you could have all the physical qualities that pass the test of beauty but that is physical beauty and that won’t take you far in life. Inner beauty is the true beauty. Inner beauty is present in one who is intelligent, has love for himself/herself, loves other people, does good deeds, is happy, cheerful and above all- is God fearing.

The following are my SEVEN inner beauty tips;

v  Love- love God, love yourself, love others
v  Be humble
v  Do good
v  Forgive those who hurt you
v  Try not to hurt other people
v  Have an excellent spirit-Be hardworking
v  Be compassionate

Elisabeth Kubler says, “The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known suffering, known struggle, known loss and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, sensitivity and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness and a deep loving concern”

Think through this quote and be blessed.

With this knowledge, I urge you to be beautiful and stay beautiful! Go on, soar high and ride on high places! Enjoy the rest of the week in beauty n style....

TICK! TICK!!... DO QUICK!!!

Ever heard the Nursery rhyme, ‘Tick says the time tick tick; what you have to do do quick’? Or the popular statement that time waits for no one? How about ‘Do not do the right thing at the wrong time’? Have you ever heard that procrastination is the foundation of all failures? Or that the time is now? What about, “the bad news is time flies; the good news is you’re the pilot”? Or that “a man who dares waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life”? I tell you, a lot has been said about time, all pointing to its very importance. During my undergraduate days, one of our lecturers, Professor Ojebode once taught the class a poem by Robert Herrick. It goes this way, “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may; Old time is still a-flying; and this same flower that smiles today tomorrow will be dying”. Professor Ojebode made us recite this during every of his lecture periods. This, I believe was done to create a lasting awareness about the importance of time and time management i...

DIARY OF A TIRED GIRL AND LESSONS LEARNT

Today is 9 th  of October, 2016 and time is 11:30pm. I am lying on my bed this Sunday night feeling tired, very very tired. My tiredness is borne out of the various activities I had engaged myself in. I sat on my chair, computer on table with my eyes fixed to the computer screen. I had been on this for long hours now. I only got up when I needed to cook, brush, have my bath and then I continued the act. This feeling of fatigue! For the greater part of the last three months, this has been my routine. I remember having body aches sometime as a result. I had to visit the hospital for that but on this fateful night, I learnt my lesson. I cannot even believe I’m writing this. I tell you, I’m feeling so tired!  I've  been feeling dizzy, like…I’d fall to the ground and then…Halfway to writing this, I was called to join the rest of the family for our daily evening prayers. During the course of our prayer meeting, ‘Nepa’ took light. I’m back to my room feeling even worse b...

COME ALIVE LITTLE BIRD

Hey little bird! Little bird on the tree. Little bird on the tree could you please sing for me? You sit there and watch with gloomy eyes. Where went your chatterings? Where went your chirpings? Hey little bird! Who clipped your wings? Please, come alive little bird. Again, little bird, come alive @Amarachi Nwankwo, 2019 Note: Children are like birds- beautiful, full of life with bright futures ahead. May we be careful not to ruin their lives with our words, silence, actions and inactions. May we never clip their wings. May we invest love, care and much more into their young lives and be sure to reap them. May we build a sane society. #saynotosuicide
