Ever heard the Nursery
rhyme, ‘Tick says the time tick tick; what you have to do do quick’? Or the
popular statement that time waits for no one? How about ‘Do not do the right
thing at the wrong time’? Have you ever heard that procrastination is the
foundation of all failures? Or that the time is now? What about, “the bad news
is time flies; the good news is you’re the pilot”? Or that “a man who dares
waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life”?
I tell you, a lot has been
said about time, all pointing to its very importance. During my undergraduate
days, one of our lecturers, Professor Ojebode once taught the class a poem by
Robert Herrick. It goes this way, “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may; Old time
is
still a-flying; and this same flower that smiles today tomorrow will be dying”.
Professor Ojebode made us recite this during every of his lecture periods.
This, I believe was done to create a lasting awareness about the importance of
time and time management in our lives.
Theophrastus clearly noted that time is
the most valuable thing a man can spend. Also, William Shakespeare advised,
“Make use of time, let not advantage slip”. Now I ask, what does the word,
‘time’ mean to you?
For me, Time is life. I
see my time as my life. I’m not perfect.
There have been times, several times that I let time slip swiftly away
without achieving much. I could be good at procrastinating but that is so wrong
and I know it. Time is life and must be well managed. Charles Darwin confirms
this when he said, “A man who dares waste one hour of time has not discovered
the value of life”. This means that if you must live (not just to exist), to
stay alive and sane you must understand the importance of time management and
live by it.
So many mistakes have been
made. Life threatening decisions have been taken mostly because we did the
right things at the wrong times; we just sat on our chairs or lay on our beds
as we watched time fly away slowly but quickly. A lot of havoc has been caused
as a result of poor time management. Students fail, marriages crumble, businesses
crash and nations are doomed because somehow, somewhere along the line someone
was ignorant or simply neglected the music of time. Some believe that when you
spend time doing a lot of things that you end up achieving little or nothing.
They say a jack of all trade is ever master of none while others are of the
belief that multitasking helps you achieve so much in your career and business.
For me I say, do the right things at the right time, set your priorities right
and focus, manage time properly and watch your accomplishments begin to unfold!
The Almighty God has given
us a gift of life and of time. This is for us to live happy and fulfilling
lives. Who says you cannot be happy? Who says you cannot achieve your heart
desires? Time has got answers to this question. The key to becoming
either a success or a failure lies in your hands and in how you make use of
your time. Time can be your friend as well as your foe. The choice is only
yours. Lord Chesterfield says, “Know the value of time. Snatch, seize and enjoy
every minute of it”. To be prosperous, you must use your time judiciously.
“Dost thou love life? Then
do not squander time, for that is the very stuff life is made of”- Benjamin
Franklin. STAY BLESSED!
Feel free to add your own quotes and that of other people on time management. Enjoy the rest of the week. Cheers!
This is on point as the word of God supports it. It also bring blessings. Thanks for awakening our spirit of it's utmost importance. Great
